I feel a sense of magic every time a new person discovers cold water. There are so many ways we can harness this to become better people, for ourselves, and for society.
1-2-1
The emerging science on cold water and its uses to support physical and mental well-being is promising. My coaching work with the Outside 2 Study with the NHS has provided me with great insight into this field. Cold water immersion can be a scientific practice and a spiritual one – everyone’s minds and bodies come to cold water in a unique way. In these sessions, we will create what works for you. A dip or a distance. You do you.
Corporate
Cold water immersion, swims, and even sitting in nature can empower us to feel happier in our own minds and bodies, to be better people for our communities and for the world we live in. Through my sessions, you will learn how cold water, even without a natural body of water, can help you build resilience, find an anchor to the presence in your breath and a deeper connection with your mind and body to find calmness again.
Retreats
Retreats are an invaluable way to feel a heartfelt connection to others that is so often stripped away in our busy worlds. Meeting and sharing the water in the community is powerful and can have life-changing effects on those who are willing to make that commitment to time spent on themselves.
I’m a qualified Level 2 STA open-water swim coach and an RLSS lifeguard with outdoor first aid.
Alongside coaching, I partner with people to help profile natural bodies of water to a broader audience. My written words have been featured in magazines such as The New Yorker, National Geographic, Conde Nast Traveller and Sidetracked as well as countless books, alongside my own book “The Beauty Of Cold”
Community
In 2022, I founded the award-winning “Blue Mind Men” cold water swim club – a peer-supported group, for those keen to discover the world of cold water for themselves.
In a world that’s becoming increasingly frantic and fast-paced, learning tools to look after our mental health is important. Sometimes, life moves so quickly that we forget to truly live in the moment. There’s something transformative about being in the water or surrounded by nature, simply tuning into your breath, and finding that sense of calm. These feelings of peace don’t just stay in those moments; they begin to seep into everyday life. You might find yourself more grounded while walking through a busy supermarket, waiting in traffic, or even preparing an evening meal.
That’s the real magic of this work—it’s powerful and it stays with you, subtly shifting how you experience the world around you.
As the benefits of being outdoors become more centred in popular culture, I believe we can all leave it better, so within this biosecurity and awareness of our impact on the beautiful spaces we play in, is something I champion.
